Seeing the words in a visual way really helps to keep the message in mind. I usually do something with labelled pieces of clothing and then cover all of them with a coat marked love. We have the chance to talk about the pieces of 'clothing' we find hardest to put on and the examples we see in the lives of other people we know. Here's a <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1n5BvDVGPCT9R_uDEjAyWdCUOGFFCzWkr/view?usp=sharing">printable reflective colouring sheet</a> if you'd like to use it.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj07z4UaoDDfLCZtkeyb6gegi9oRiSLKuOuMyw9GLuL1juetDdp_a7DgKg6afsNmJbolUIwnI_UqMKfcYkk7cC2S2AwYiPRjO43g7PU2-EBGdpTxPoXEPHzKoLrE9PLJEwJhyIB8wYqLj9MrFF_eiTD4EN3D6c7Ec_JX73LzrryXXm7jBflaYCRKZziOe1F/s2338/colossians%203%20card.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2338" data-original-width="1653" height="588" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj07z4UaoDDfLCZtkeyb6gegi9oRiSLKuOuMyw9GLuL1juetDdp_a7DgKg6afsNmJbolUIwnI_UqMKfcYkk7cC2S2AwYiPRjO43g7PU2-EBGdpTxPoXEPHzKoLrE9PLJEwJhyIB8wYqLj9MrFF_eiTD4EN3D6c7Ec_JX73LzrryXXm7jBflaYCRKZziOe1F/w415-h588/colossians%203%20card.JPG" width="415" /></span></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><span style="color: #ff00fe;">Talk about:</span> </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><ul style="text-align: left;"><li><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">What do these words mean? Muddy Church is an amazing idea and you can find out more (with all sorts of brilliant resources) <a href="https://www.muddychurch.co.uk/">here.</a> We have adapted the format to suit our congregation and the session is usually a wander through the park with a focus for wondering and exploring, linked to a Bible verse or story. We then finish, after 45 mins- 1 hour, at the cafe for a drink or an ice-cream! We have all ages participating and our usual crowd varies in age from 3-70s. It's great if you want to do something intergenerational!</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Our most recent session used a verse from Psalm 91 and looked at the theme of God's protection, or what we could find that was 'safe and sound.'<a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/14qRtj5I_q1ej_I7uXzw0WTkMUn9Xlu-r/view?usp=sharing"> Here is a printable version</a> of the sheet we used on our wander:</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; As part of our exploration, we looked at Romans 12: 9-21 during a cafe church service and this was one of our intergenerational activities. </span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikwVkkEWZ8rYk43KQIESXm3JhLD0CMMroodGh8p-9-CBZYkXENZqv-EK-fj4-0TiAlXHwewkTH0qqCDsWOhlehsVD3B-7ss_tHi2Usx7HuCnkYl_9WlXDoaOpmKask30ORwH9cncFtJJwFTqZ03nEc2k5TSXIssaUc_72QxA-rkDjquYSENmRQEv_wgw/s4032/IMG_0256.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="313" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikwVkkEWZ8rYk43KQIESXm3JhLD0CMMroodGh8p-9-CBZYkXENZqv-EK-fj4-0TiAlXHwewkTH0qqCDsWOhlehsVD3B-7ss_tHi2Usx7HuCnkYl_9WlXDoaOpmKask30ORwH9cncFtJJwFTqZ03nEc2k5TSXIssaUc_72QxA-rkDjquYSENmRQEv_wgw/w418-h313/IMG_0256.jpg" width="418" /></span></a></div><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">We talked about how badges often show that we belong to a group or a team and we wanted to make and wear a badge that reflected our team or church family. After thinking about the different ways of showing love that the Romans passage talks about, we made 'love with arms' badges to show that we were people who wanted to share love by living it out. <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/19QlZZGIdCz9FiwIjnVqkvWOcur64PkVu/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=100691055912532286165&rtpof=true&sd=true" target="_blank">Click here</a> to print out the instruction sheet.</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF1geJMHXebA9hhngRf0fzgo-QqBl1xHDIuIuvt4VwkuhFCozwG2eTemNxyzqMDuOABHd4Ic63h98V0elch8YOdKj-tbDUXWRIUgaQdNCsnlVK_2-3kig_axdiirAgeN-aF3VocnZ3IZmP-gDEASctO7-IMf33tDbTP3XIDIK3Fqg2d0CT7jlTjo07pw/s1800/IMG_0541.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1800" height="278" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF1geJMHXebA9hhngRf0fzgo-QqBl1xHDIuIuvt4VwkuhFCozwG2eTemNxyzqMDuOABHd4Ic63h98V0elch8YOdKj-tbDUXWRIUgaQdNCsnlVK_2-3kig_axdiirAgeN-aF3VocnZ3IZmP-gDEASctO7-IMf33tDbTP3XIDIK3Fqg2d0CT7jlTjo07pw/w418-h278/IMG_0541.JPG" width="418" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1466840275939763610.post-88490583737859571482022-02-25T15:51:00.002+00:002022-02-25T15:51:30.976+00:00Praying for Peace Printable Reflective Colouring Sheet<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEih7RpE0HLDdV-s7LcRAA0mRcJZ2ixIWveQWn_ZlvMZ34_PjLHU8nhloKgu0Rknoy4BaFEUiq4mUxTuXujjqwrM5EwjXwpRZdR4HmaP1H_Vc32aViaO6U7tg4S_20PzgiTQDn3MBBk-6vImmpOW10G5SxxInFZ-JE4ESx55ofIDfFqCD0NM9ZaZ82489Q=s2048" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEih7RpE0HLDdV-s7LcRAA0mRcJZ2ixIWveQWn_ZlvMZ34_PjLHU8nhloKgu0Rknoy4BaFEUiq4mUxTuXujjqwrM5EwjXwpRZdR4HmaP1H_Vc32aViaO6U7tg4S_20PzgiTQDn3MBBk-6vImmpOW10G5SxxInFZ-JE4ESx55ofIDfFqCD0NM9ZaZ82489Q=w400-h400" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">In light of current events in Ukraine, the Archbishops of Canterbury and York have asked that Sunday 27th February is used as a day of prayer for peace. The passage opens up so many amazing themes to explore, but the reading itself can be a bit abstract in places. Because we wanted to make it as accessible as possible, I made it into a Lego stop motion animation. As the fields were churned up by fighting, unseen poppy seeds were distributed, which meant that the following year the fields were full of bright poppies. Life came where death had been. Life found a way. This always reminds me of the verse in John 1:4-5 describing Jesus, which says: </span><p></p><p class="chapter-1" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 2.4rem; min-width: 0px;"><span style="color: #ff00fe; font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><span class="text John-1-4" id="en-NIV-26049"><span class="versenum" style="display: inline; font-weight: 700; line-height: normal; position: relative; top: auto; vertical-align: text-top;">4 </span>In him was life, and that life was the light of all people.</span> <span class="text John-1-5" id="en-NIV-26050"><span class="versenum" style="display: inline; font-weight: 700; line-height: normal; position: relative; top: auto; vertical-align: text-top;">5 </span>The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.</span></span></p><div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 2.4rem; min-width: 0px; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Just as life persisted in the poppy fields, Jesus' light will never be put out. With God there is always hope that war and death and violence will be defeated. This craft helps to explore this verse and this idea.</span></div><div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 2.4rem; min-width: 0px; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /><span style="color: #ff00fe;">You will need</span>: Black paper, a hole punch, sellotape, glue, red paper, scissors, battery operated tea lights.</span></div><div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 2.4rem; min-width: 0px; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">Cut a roughly A6 size piece of black paper or card and punch lots of holes in it. Talk about the new life symbolised by the poppies and the fact that death and fighting was not the end for those fields. Link that to the verse from John 1 and look at the light shining into the darkness through the holes in the tube. font-size: large;">For the last few years our church has taken up the tradition of chalking a blessing on the door to mark the day when, traditionally, the wise men visited Jesus. This is a tradition which is especially popular in Europe and I first came across it when I was living in Germany. Normally we bless some chalk in the service and then chalk the front door of church, saying a prayer asking God to bless that place. People then take a stick of the chalk home and do the same for their own front doors. This year we are placing packs in the church porch and at various places in the community so that anyone who wants to can join in the tradition and chalk their own doors. Here are images of the double sided prayer card we have put in each pack, along with a stick of chalk. We got together this afternoon to film a Zoom Nativity to show in our schools, since we can't be there in person.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVbMSRfqFZIdmeo96SgdrzPC89S5mKSWLg2r0DAx5CJmh9WmQctFEuy1QNvfsBSzw6zwS4n-8XBrV6DM5Jtp76n9qpu45Pj0aOuxRNuQ2R2hHc1RuN2F-nZiCg3OjOkZxllOMryakH1TEr/s963/Screen+Shot+2020-11-24+at+13.54.12.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="650" data-original-width="963" height="270" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVbMSRfqFZIdmeo96SgdrzPC89S5mKSWLg2r0DAx5CJmh9WmQctFEuy1QNvfsBSzw6zwS4n-8XBrV6DM5Jtp76n9qpu45Pj0aOuxRNuQ2R2hHc1RuN2F-nZiCg3OjOkZxllOMryakH1TEr/w400-h270/Screen+Shot+2020-11-24+at+13.54.12.png" width="400" /></a></div><p>The whole nativity is 3-4 minutes long and is suitable for primary school audiences. It works by everyone naming their Zoom profile with their character name and switching their video off unless they are taking part in the scene. Not everyone is able or confident to return just yet, though, so we are continuing with our weekly online family services. This week we are taking a look at the story of Jesus and the 10 lepers and exploring the theme of thankfulness. Each week we produce a video with a short service including sorry and thank you prayers, a story and a creative prayer activity that people at home can easily join in with. For this Sunday we're looking at the story of Abraham being asked to sacrifice his son Isaac and how God provides what he needs.<br />

It's hard in times such as this not to be sympathetic towards Thomas. It's hard, sometimes to see where Jesus is when there is pain and sadness all around. That is why I've chosen to focus on Hope this Sunday. How do we find God and have faith in all of this when we can't see him face to face as Thomas does? We can look for the people bringing hope and compassion and love and light in the darkness and that is where we will see God at work. This play dough mat will help children to explore this idea of hope as a sign of God. As usual, print it out (<a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1I-SxghkG76Pj4EG9bbi-hRw5TtsOc6xx/view?usp=sharing">click here</a>), laminate for future repeated uses and have fun! </span><br />
