Concertina Stars for Epiphany (with printable instructions)

We are gearing up for Epiphany on Sunday and have a great all age service planned. At the side of church, for those who want to be a bit hands on, we have a few crafts ready and this new craft will be one of them. This craft is really effective but will need some help for very young hands!

You will need:

3 x A6 size yellow/orange paper, scissors, glue, 2 lolly sticks.

Start at the short end one of the pieces of paper and make concertina folds all the way down.

You should now have 3 concertina-ed papers.

Snip the ends off of each concertina, as shown in the photo.

Fold each concertina in half.

Open out and glue together the bits of paper closest to the fold line. This will make your concertina into a fan.

Glue the three fans together as shown. You will now have a large fan!

Let the glue dry for a moment.

Squeeze the fan shut and point it with the snipped ends downward. Glue lolly sticks to each side of the fan as shown here. Wait for the glue to dry.

Hold on to the lolly sticks and open the fan up to make a star!

If you are looking for an active, kinaesthetic, way of praying in a small group or even with the whole congregation, then this might be for you! You will need: A collection of buttons of different shapes, sizes and colours- at least one button for each person praying. Give everyone a button. Feel the hardness of the button and think about people who are going through hard times. Ask God to help them. Buttons are used to fasten clothes together. Trusting God: The Amazing Water Glass Trick!

I used this idea in an assembly yesterday, focussing on people we trust and what it means to trust God. This would work really well if you are exploring miracle stories or stories about trust. The Lord's Prayer: Crafts, games and prayer activities

On Saturday, Powersource explored the Lord's Prayer, looking creatively at every section. Here's how we broke it down and what we did. Some activities have links to posts which will explain in more detail. Please note that we had a 3 hour session so that's how we fitted so much in! Warm up- Order the Lord's prayer ( how much can you remember?). Prayer printed out and cut into strips, mixed up so they can be put in the correct order. We made this a race!
